Cesar Virto was once a DACA student that due to his lack of citizenship was not able to obtain a scholarship for the sport he practiced during high school which was cross country. One day as high school days were finishing, his dad found him crying. His reason behind those tears was the fact that he did not know what he would do without his citizenship. His dad gave him some wise words that stuck with him. He told Cesar that although citizenship papers could make one’s life easier, it did not give you ambition.
In his story he mentions his accomplishments!
12 years later and 8 years with DACA:
– I have a college degree
– I am a homeowner
– I have an Airbnb in Nashville, TN
– I do photography
– I work from Uber HQ
– I run my father’s social media construction business in AL.
– I do public speaking on immigration and write to newspapers about us DACA folks.
– My dog Charlie has a great following on social media due to business ties with pet products and others
And I just bought my 3rd rental property!
He leaves us with these words:
Don’t let your lack of 9 numbers stop you from dreaming. Citizenship does not give you ambition.
– Cesar V.
His story is very inspiring and it is important for DACA students and undocumented students to remember that although a citizenship status could make their lives easier, it does not guarantee success.
